Sylvie Gadmer Tiến khám phá phim tài liệu thông qua Ateliers Varan vào năm 1996, trong một chuyến công tác tại Campuchia. Từ năm 2004, bà là đồng sáng lập và phụ trách Ateliers Varan Vietnam, sau đó được André Van In điều hành, trước khi Varan Vietnam được thành lập chính thức bởi các học viên cũ của chương trình.
Bà tốt nghiệp ngành điện ảnh tại Đại học Sorbonne Nouvelle và từng làm biên kịch và trợ lý đạo diễn trước khi theo đuổi sự nghiệp dựng phim từ năm 1998.
Sylvie Gadmer Tiến đã hợp tác với nhiều đạo diễn nổi tiếng như Merzak Allouache, Dominique Farrugia, Diane Kurys, Lorraine Levy, Pascale Pouzadoux, Anne Fontaine và André Van In.
Bà giảng dạy các khóa nhập môn về làm phim tài liệu tại Ateliers Varan ở Paris, Phnom Penh và Hà Nội. Ngoài ra, bà còn đạo diễn nhiều bộ phim tài liệu, trong đó có Les gardiens des Monts de la Lune (“Những người canh giữ dãy Núi Mặt Trăng”), lấy cảm hứng từ công trình nghiên cứu của Sabrina Krief với một cộng đồng tinh tinh hoang dã.
