Ly Nguyen Ngoc Thao is an independent documentary filmmaker based in Hanoi, Vietnam. She graduated from the Academy of Journalism and Communication with a major in Multimedia. Ly began her filmmaking career by taking a course at the Center for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD). Furthermore, she participated in several filmmaking classes, including the Ateliers Varan Workshop, which focused on the Mekong Delta in 2020. In 2024, she returned to participate in the Varan workshop to further develop her editing skills.

Her films have been screened at various festivals, including Visual Documentary Project in Japan (2018), Aesthetica Short Film Festival in the UK (2020), Cinéma Du Réel in France (2023), European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival (2024), and Documentary Film Festival for Sustainability in Vietnam (2024).
