SYNOPSIS
The Americans financed the building in which to house the managers of Southern Vietnam in former Saigon. When they lost the war, the Communist government finished the building work to house their own cadres who later became its owners. Today, Korean and Japanese investors are offering fortunes to buy the entire site. Through the portrait of a building where he was born and still lives, Le Minh paints the story of the history of Vietnam since 1975 and the transformations taking place there today.

Mother’s gone to town
With a sick husband, the price of rice that has collapsed and two children attending school, Madam Dang Thi Than is forced to leave the countryside to look for work in town. She goes through the streets on a bicycle and buys old cardboard boxes by weight and re-sells them. She shares accommodation with other women in the same situation. This is the only way she can feed her family.

For 50 years, Mrs. Ba Liên has been running the family shipbuilding business with an iron hand. Her workshop produces traditional wooden boats. It is the last of its kind but its days are numbered.
