Screening of 2 short documentary films by Varan Vietnam in Hanoi

Screening of 2 short documentary films by Varan Vietnam in Hanoi

“Phòng thu bí mật” by Nguyễn Thiên Ân takes us to an inclusive school where sighted and visually impaired students study together, evoking the dreamy moments of adolescence, the innocence, and vivid emotions of young boys through the story of twin brothers Phát and Nhân, who nurture their musical dreams together in a secret studio within the dormitory. Meanwhile, “Toàn ơi” by Nguyễn Hồ Bảo Nghi guides the audience into a lively neighborhood in the heart of Hanoi, centered on the dedicated work of “Comrade” Toàn. Interwoven in this witty story are powerful desires for love and the subtle traces of reality mingling with the character’s distant dreams.

Just half an hour after the screening, Hanoi experienced a heavy rain shower.

The Varan Vietnam team sincerely thanks the audience who attended and brought warmth and sharing to the screening. The affection you showed for the films motivates the team to continue their filmmaking journey.

We would also like to sincerely thank the families of Phát, Nhân, and Toàn, as well as all units that supported and assisted during the preparation and organization of the screening. Thanks to the directors Nguyễn Hồ Bảo Nghi and Nguyễn Thiên Ân for their two short films that brought laughter, emotion, and reflection to a memorable Saturday afternoon.

“The Unseen Studio” Receives Commendation at Golden Kite Awards 2025

Nguyễn Thiên Ân began his filmmaking journey entirely self-taught, through short fiction films filled with color and imagination. He gradually found his way to real-life stories and the direct cinema approach through documentary work. This transformation did not close off his earlier path but opened a new creative direction: an intriguing interplay between reality and fiction, between observation and construction.
